Canada Day

It’s time to celebrate! The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum is highlighting Canada’s 150th birthday with lots of exciting activities for the whole family. Our special demonstrations will offer visitors the chance to learn about Canadian agriculture and learn about different Canadian breeds of livestock. There will also be games, ice cream making and tasting as well a sample of our red & white strawberry shortcake. Admission is free.


Special Demonstrations – Meet the Canadian Breeds:

9:30 a.m. The Chantecler Chicken—Poultry House
10:30 a.m. The Canadienne Cow—Dairy Barn
11:30 a.m. The Canadian Horse —Horse Paddock
1:30 p.m. The Chantecler Chicken—Poultry House
2:30 p.m. The Canadienne Cow—Dairy Barn
3:30 p.m. The Canadian Horse—Horse Paddock
4:00 p.m. Afternoon Milking — Dairy Barn

Other Activities

Ice Cream Making
10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The young and young-at-heart, can help make ice cream using an old-fashioned hand-crank freezer. The best part? Everyone who helps can taste the end result!

Historical Site Tour with Tea Time
12 p.m.

Join us as we take a walk down memory lane and discover interesting historical facts about our beloved Museum and its surrounding heritage buildings. The tour will end with a sample of tea, just like it was served all those years ago at the Experimental Farm’s annual garden parties.

The Red & White Strawberry Shortcake
ongoing activity (Kitchen closed from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.)

Visitors are invited to the demonstration kitchen to sample this delicious patriotic cake. Interesting facts about strawberries and the Canadian strawberry industry will be shared.

The Great Canadian Quiz
ongoing activity

Visitors can spin the wheel and test their knowledge of Canadian trivia.

Kids Craft & Games Station

Kids are invited to make a Canada Day-themed craft to take home and have fun playing some games.

Face Painting ($)

The Painted Pixie will be on site to work her magic!

Tally-Ho Wagon Rides ($)
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. - Weather permitting

Enjoy a tour through the fields of the Central Experimental Farm on the Tally-Ho wagon pulled by the dynamic duo, Paul and Padrig, the Museum’s Clydesdale horses.

Dominion Day on the Farm ($)
12 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Enjoy artisanal beer, delicious food, and great local bands as you celebrate Canada's 150th with Dominion City Brewing Co.
$20 per person, $5 for children, and free admission for stroller-bound children.

New Exhibition Opening: Canola! Seeds of Innovation
