What To See and Do

Food Literacy Initiative

Food Literacy Initiative

In 2013, the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum began a new five-year commitment to food literacy programs. On May 2, 2013, the Museum added ‘Food’ to its name to draw a stronger and important link between agriculture and food. With the opening of the new Learning Centre, the Museum was also able to expand its programming, teaching children and families about keeping food nutritious and safe from farm to fork.

Putting together a Food Science National Advisory Committee (FSNAC) has enabled the Museum to develop a new food science exhibition as well as food literacy programs for audiences in the National Capital Region and across Canada.

FSNAC:

The Food Science National Advisory Committee, comprised of members ranging from academia to NGOs; from industry to government to entrepreneurs, has helped guide the exhibition development process. Additional support from partners such as Nestlé Canada, Health Canada, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Public Health Agency of Canada, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and Bernardin Ltd. has enabled the Museum to bring this new exhibition and food literacy programs to audiences in the National Capital Region and across Canada.
